July

This morning I was shocked by the news I recived when I logged into Facebook. (My main news source, these days) Dad, I’m sure you’re very proud of that last piece of information.

Anyway, the first status update I saw this morning was, how did July get here?  I was a bit confused by this news and switched to the opening screen on my cell phone and was shocked when I saw:

July 1, 2013

Seriously?  How did that happen?  It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating the last day of school and now we’re almost to the Fourth of July?  I had a minor panic attack and swallowed down the lump that immediately formed in my throat as I realized that the days of lingering with my little ones are quickly passing.  This morning while I filled out forms for Fall soccer I hummed the tune, I don’t see this, I don’t see this, I don’t see this.

Living in denial might help me to enjoy our remaining summer days just a bit more.

Speaking of summer days. . . oh my goodness.  Our Ohio skies have delivered. . .

Each day a look upward exhibits a unique and enchanting scene that makes it impossible not to stop and take it in. . .

Or pull the car over in the middle of nowhere just to take a picture. . .

The word “spectacular” doesn’t do it justice. . . nor do these pictures.  There are certain times of the year when I think to live anywhere but ‘here’ would be preferable–this is not one of those times.

Need more proof?  Here are a few photos that I took during one morning run. . .

Breathtaking, no?

We have a lot to do between now and the end of summer.  Packing up one house and moving to another feels like a daunting task right now.  In fact, I may be in a bit of denial about that, as well.  (More on that later.)  Right now we visit the new place and and imagine and dream what it will be like in just a few short months–but it doesn’t seem really, really real.

Chanelle is turning into quite the little photog, making sure to capture those moments I might miss. . .

We load back into the car and return home and pretend that we don’t need to pack our house.  Instead, we fill our free moments with things that seem for more appealing. . . we explore. . .

Into the darkness we walk and learn that there are always new treasures to be found.  Tiny little fish swimming about, anxious animals scurrying out of our way, and three little ones who aren’t afraid to get dirty.

It is during times like this that I wonder what I will do when they get older and no longer want to explore the depths of the forest with me.  Before they came into our lives, I didn’t know (or I had forgotten) that this other world existed.   Now that I know–I don’t want to lose it again.

I hope they never lose their awe and wonder at the world–they have certainly given that back to me.  Just last week we decided to venture to a bike path where we had never ridden.  Now that Chanelle is rockin’ her two wheels, she’s ready to get out there.

We lingered on the path while pausing to capture brightly colored flowers or interesting looking bugs.  Charlie and Chanelle paced back and forth on their bikes while Meadow jumped in and out of her stroller, making our trek triple the time it would have needed to be.

And before I knew it, Charlie and Chanelle had disappeared off the path and into the forest and down another path where they discovered a beautiful scene.

I’ve decided that my kids have some sort of super power that senses out creeks, skipping rocks, and mud.  I think it’s in their DNA–from Chad’s side.  I’m not complaining–this is how we spent the remainder of our morning. . .

This is what I love about summertime.  Lingering, discovering, exploring and being.  I’m looking forward to more of that in the months to come–in between packing, planning, and preparing to move into a new community.  So many feelings surrounding all that. . .

For now, I say a Thank you to June. . .

. . . and a big Hello! to July!

    LOVELY.

Clouds are one of my favorite things to look at in picture form….and in real life. When I took a photography class in college SO many of my pictures where of clouds. The teacher asked me to find another subject to photograph 🙂

    Your pictures are gorgeous!!

When we were driving home from WV, there were so many pictures I took of the clouds. They were gorgeous the whole way home!

I too can NOT believe it is July. Nope. Can't believe it.

For one, this year has FLOWN by. I don't ever remember time going so fast. But also, it means my son turns two in about TWO months.

WHAT THE, WHAT?!?! HOW?!!! Where is the time going?!

Oh, and we are totally hiring you within the next year to take photos. We had a groupon for photos at JCP and while a few turned out good, I was so disappointed….especially when I see the beauty you capture. I told Terry, when we do the next photos I have a person to call!! And since my family lives in Dover we can even come to you on a trip home 🙂ReplyCancel
