The Importance of Dancing With The Stars

You’re wondering where I’m going with this one, aren’t you?  Dancing with the Stars, important?  It is. . . to me, anyway.

You see, my Mom and I used to watch Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) together.  Well, not together, really.  We lived two hours apart from each other,  but I knew she was watching and she knew I was watching.  In the morning we would chat. . . who do you think is going home?  Who needs to go home?  Who was your favorite last night?  Who do you think is going to win it all?
Those are good memories for me.  Even during the last few years I would chat with my Grandma or even with Miss Nancy about our favorite picks of the season.  Miss Nancy and I would stand between our properties and discuss who completely blew it on Monday night’s show and who really shined.  Truly, DWTS is all about nostalgia for me.

(And lets be honest–I don’t mind spending an hour watching Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Derek Hough.

Anyway, back to nostalgia.  I’m not sure how it happened, but this year I have found a new DWTS viewing partner.  The most perfect viewing partner I could image. . .

Yep.  Chanelle has become quite the DWTS’s enthusiast.  (Don’t judge me.)  We DVR the show and watch it when we have time during the week.  Let me tell you, watching the show with her has brought the entertainment value up tenfold.  Here are some of her most recent comments while watching the show. . .

“Who do you think is going to be in jeopardy?”
“Are they going to do the side-by-side challenge again?”
“Why do they guys always take their shirts off?!”
“How many professionals are there?” (“Professionals” takes her a few tries to spit out)
“I’m sad, I wish no one had to go home.”
“I hope the dog wins!”
Really, I don’t watch the show–I sit and wait for the most fabulous Chanelleisms to fill the room.

As if that isn’t enough–DWTS’s has done something else.  Something pretty spectacular. . .

She has started dancing.

It was subtle at first.  She was timid.  She would grab Meadow’s hand and swing her around.  I knew my job was to pretend not to notice, even though my heart was swelling on the inside.  When music was playing, I noticed her escaping to a corner to twist and turn and sway with the rhythm.  Again, I told myself–don’t make a big deal.

With each episode we have watched, her movements have gotten more bold and more free.  Without a word spoken, I have watched her emerge from the shadows and dance as if no one is watching.

Truly, it takes my breath away to watch her be so free.  Really, I have no words–I’ll let the images speak for themselves. . .

I hope they made you smile today.

“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”

While I really think it was a little pricey, I had such a great experience at my classes. Rueda de casino, cha cha, salsa, hip hop etc. you name it and they probably have it.ReplyCancel
