I am not well-versed in fast food ordering. . .

The girls and I took a road trip to Target this week.  It’s about a thirty minute trek and as most everyone knows. . . it’s always a worthwhile trip.  We loaded back into the car to head home just before noon and I knew Meadow would likely fall asleep.  I wanted her to stay awake until we got home and decided to drive through McDonald’s in hopes that chewing on chicken nuggets would keep her awake for 30 minutes.  (Yes, I know what is in those things. . . )

Let’s just say that fast food drive thru’s (is that the correct spelling?) are not places I frequent often.  I drove up and before I even made it to the big fancy menu I had a decision to make:  left or right.  There were two lanes!  What the heck is this about?!

Despite the car in the left lane and the empty right lane, I decided to be safe. I stuck close to the curb while the other lane remained empty.   As I waited for the car in front of me to place their order I strained my eyes to see the menu while simultaneously wondering how the people inside know how to deliver the correct order to the correct car.  Seriously, both lanes seemed to filter into one lane.

Confusing.

When it was my turn I pulled up to the overwhelmingly large menu and my eyes scanned the print.  A voice called out to me something like Welcome to McDonald’s would you like to try dkljflkjfd;kl?  (I have no idea what she said.)  My heart began to beat faster and I felt my face flush and understood what the Seinfeld cast must have felt when they visited the Soup Nazi.  I scanned the items, but all the words just ran together.  All I wanted were chicken nuggets for the girls.  I remembered back to my childhood and gave it a shot. . . could I have 2 six piece nuggets, please?  It worked!  They responded. . . would you like sauce with that?  I was feeling quite proud of myself at this point–I conquered the drive thru and the menu.  No thank you, I answered with renewed confidence.

That will be $6.30.

What??!!  Six dollars and thirty cents to feed a 5 and a 1 year old?  I was certain the voice through the intercom had made a mistake.  I pulled up to the window expecting an apology and a recalculated total.

However, when I drove up the woman inside was staring at her register with a confused look on her face.  She looked up at me and laughed. . . you know, you can get 20 nuggets for $4.99.  It seems silly to pay that much for 12.  I told the nice lady that I was feeding two young girls and 20 nuggets seemed like a bit much.  Her response?  Well, can you eat some? I spared the woman my explanation of vegetarians and chicken nuggets not mixing well, and just told her that we’ll take the 20.

As I pulled away I felt as if I were leaving the Twilight Zone and tried to make sense of what had just happened.  I called Chad and told him that I, apparently, need educated on the ways of fast food ordering.

And I tell you this story only to say this:  there is something really wrong with this world when you can buy 20 nuggets for far less than 12.

Moving on. . . some bits from our week. . .

1.  Target

Like I said. . . we went to Target. . .

Target is kind of like an indoor playground for big kids and little kids. . .

Meadow was crawling with a tiny dinosaur while “ROARRRRRRING”

Target or Disney. . . it’s a toss up.

2.  Hair

When your husband is bald, he should not be permitted to style your daughters hair.

Lovely drool, no?

3.  Question Game

A few weeks ago I talked about the Question Game.  Not long after that post, my MIL sent me this link that has some really great questions.  We added many of them to our jar.  Some of my favorites. . .

What is the most enjoyable thing our family has done together this year?
When you feel sad, what cheers you up?
If a genie would give you only one wish, which would you pick, and why?

Check it out.  Great conversation starters for the dinner table, car trips, or before bed.

4.  Instababby

If you are on Instagram and have children that love animals or you love them yourself–Instababby is a fun follow introduced to me by my sister. You will find baby animals that are super cute.  Chanelle and Meadow adore this follow.

5.  Project Life 365

As many of you know I am in my second year of my 365-Project.  Recently, I decided to jump on board with Project Life 365.  The only difference from last year is that I now have daily prompts that have infused some life into the project.  I enjoy interpreting the words and communicating them through my images. . .

Words such as “over there”. . .

“Blue”

“Contained”

“Trouble Maker”

 “Process”

And “Message”. . .

I’ve enjoyed this little twist in the project and each day I shamelessly plug display my work on SummerK Photography’s Facebook page.

6.  Excursion

For several years,  I have run by a little forest that is located about two miles from our house.  It is so beautiful and intriguing it’s almost impossible to run by it without stopping to take it in.  Each time I run by I stare down the rows of trees expecting to see something journeying through the forest.  For years I’ve said to Chad. . . I really want to take my camera back there. . .

Finally, I did it.

I don’t know who the land belongs to so we made our visit quick, but I determined to find it’s owner and get permission to go back.  The view is breath-taking.

7.  Composition

I am currently taking a class on composition with Tracey Clark.  I completely dig her and have been a fan for several years.  In the class we learn about being intentional about composing the images we capture and paying attention to placement, mood, and relationships between subjects.

I’ve learned quite a bit.  That’s why it took 457 tries to get this shot. . .

I really wanted to get a shot with a bubble directly over her eye.

. . . just kidding.  It was a total fluke.

Have a happy weekend!

Drive throughs drive me batty, too. For one thing, the print is TINY, I feel rushed when there are folks behind me, and I wonder, too, how they keep everything straight.

Usually I just give up, park and go in to place my order. ; )

Wonderful photos and commentary. Happy Weekend!ReplyCancel

Love me some target!! I could get lost in there far too long. I am going this week to get easter stuff aka spend too much money on stuff I don't need for Henry and myself 😉

That is hilarious about the nugget thing! I don't eat fast food often, and I always feel overwhelmed if I go. i agree, the menus are confusing and the double lane thing….how do they do that?! At least she saved you a little money!

Love the pictures! My child is getting cabin fever…mom is too!!hahahReplyCancel
