Daylight Savings

My sister called around 10 p.m. Saturday evening.  We chatted for a bit before having the conversation that I inevitably have with someone twice a year. . .

Okay, so we’re springing forward so that means it’s going to be darker in the morning, right? I asked her.
No, I think it will be lighter.
She said.
Are you sure? I questioned her.  I thought it was darker for a little while before it’s actually light early in the morning.
Oh, who knows?

I don’t think we ever actually came to a conclusion that night.  I decided to just wait until the morning and lo’ and behold. . . it’s darker in the morning.

I am not a big fan of the whole time change thing.  I’d be willing to start and circulate a petition in order to put a stop to this extremely annoying tradition.  I just don’t get it.  In our world the change in time means mixed up kids.  The dark morning leaves our house quiet until later in the morning (which isn’t a bad thing), but throws the rest of the day off.  Meadow is not feeling nap time and it’s nearly nine-thirty and I just walked into Charlie and Chanelle’s room to find books, papers, crayons, stuffed animals, Lego’s and other miscellaneous things providing entertainment by closet light.  Charlie and Chanelle stared at me with their big “innocent” eyes as I instructed them to clean up the room and get to bed NOW.  Apparently, they didn’t think I would notice the light in their room–two hours after bedtime.

Did I mention that the time change also leads to cranky adults?

Anyway, before the whole time change fiasco took place for the 68th time in my lifetime, we had a glorious weekend.

See that up there?  All that light?!  That would be the sun.  Friday afternoon the clouds parted and I think I even heard the Heaven’s sing as the sun poured down it’s beautiful rays directly into our backyard.  Despite the slight chill that remained in the air, we basked in glow and pretended it was a warm August night.

I think Meadow was so enthralled with the beautiful yellow light that she had to go here and there and everywhere just to see if if was the same in every position.  Charlie and Chanelle, however, worked dilligently to rescue the worms that had buried themselves deep below the rocks all winter.

We were so thankful to get a reprieve from the chilly temperatures and dreary days.  We did our best not to waste a second of it.  As if we knew this would be short lived we raced against time before the bomb of winter blew up again.

We laid on the sidewalk until our bodies were covered with colorful chalk. . .

We blew bubbles and knocked balls out of the park. . .

We rocked summer fashion. . .

And the girls even made a trip to the zoo. . .

Sort of. . . they worked all afternoon making their own zoo in our living room.  They carefully made homes for all of their animals equipped with signs and comfy beds. . .

And when I say “they” I actually mean Chanelle.  Meadow enjoyed following behind and tearing everything down. . . and laughing. . .

But when the sun is bursting  through the window, it’s really difficult to get angry.  The two carried on like this all afternoon and were making plans to expand their zoo just as the boys arrived home.  I was thankful because the topic of animal food and water had come up and I didn’t think that was a great idea.  Chad had a better idea. . .

We took in the real zoo where the animal food and water stayed in the animal cages and not in our living room.

Except for the absence of the sprinkler, I think we lived an entire summer in one weekend.  I’m glad, too, become Monday slammed us back into winter temperatures and gloomy skies.  However, last weekend was a reminder that spring is near. . . we just have to hold on a little bit longer.

And of course, adjust to the time change.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, Friends!

    Fun!!

I also don't like/get daylight savings. I know it is so the farmers have more light (which I approve of) but I have been insanely tired all week. Spring forward – pppsssccchhhhtttt!

    Here's to next week!

PS – I LOVE fall back. Extra hour of sleep? Yes please!ReplyCancel
