Incident #2 With Hard Boiled Eggs

I think I had an incident with hard boiled eggs before.  Right after Meadow was born?  Yep, yep, I did.  Here it is.  The whole ‘boiling an egg without water incident’.  It could happen to anyone, right?

This time was a little different.  This time I put water in the pan (yep, learned that lesson).  Next I put eggs into the pan, and then I put the pan with eggs on the burner.  Simple enough, right?

While waiting for the eggs to finish boiling, I ventured into my office to do a few things. (Should have thought that one through, right? When I emerged, thirty minutes later, I had a minor panic attack as I realized that I had completely forgotten about my boiling eggs.  I cursed myself under my breath and ran into the kitchen to rescue the eggs that had been sitting far too long on the hot burner.  Except, strangely, the pan was cold and the water sat idle.

Apparently I had forgotten to turn the burner on.

For once, my absent mindedness worked in my favor.  (Go me.)

I have a few blog posts formulating in my head.  That’s usually how they start–a thought, an idea, an incident and voila, I make it a blog post.  One might be titled, “Why Social Media is Killing Me.”  Another might be, “Unexpected words from a Jamaican Woman” and another might be Lesson’s from Donald Miller.  There are a few more, but honestly, I don’t have the energy to write them. (see egg story above)

I blame Daylight Saving’s Time.

I am convinced that the person (or persons) who decided that springing forward and falling back was a good idea did not have children.  Or, if they did, their kids were well beyond the single digit ages. Meadow hasn’t quite adjusted to that one hour time change yet.  She likes to chill with Chad and I until 10 or 10:30.  We found her sleeping in the hallway outside Chanelle’s bedroom one night.

This was after we had already returned her to her bedroom about five times.  Apparently she had enough energy to carry her blankets and animals down the hall, but couldn’t quite make it down the stairs one more time.

Chad and I are convinced that we are just so cool, she wants to be with us all of the time.  That’s the only explanation we can come up with for why she visits us two times throughout the night and then wakes up far before the sun shows her face.

It’s a stage, it’s a stage, I repeat to myself over and over.

Exhaustion has made a home here this week so it seems like a good time to celebrate the little things.  You know what I mean–the little things that are really big things in the grand scheme of things.  (Did you follow that?)

Little things that made me smile this week. . .

1.  Rain Forest

It was rainy and cold over the weekend, so we decided to take a trip to the Rain Forest at the zoo.

The best part of the trip?  Watching Meadow watching animals.  I know I’ve said it before, but this age is pure joy.  I fought back the lump in my throat and wiped the tears from my eyes as I drank in the all of her 2 year oldness.

If I could freeze time, I do believe I’d do it right now, sans the diapers.

2.  Daylight Savings

As much as daylight savings time is kicking us in the rear, we are loving the extra light. . .

And the extra time outside. . .

Whoops!  Lost boot!

3.  Spring Puddles

A little mud never hurt anyone.

4.  Art Museum

We thought going to the art museum would be a great idea.

And it would have been. . .

. . . had we left the kids at home.

Their enthusiasm was under-whelming.

Another lesson learned by Chad and Summer.

5.  New Things

My MIL is teaching Chanelle how to crochet.

I think that’s pretty awesome.

Now that we live .5 miles from them, when Chanelle gets confused, Gran comes to the rescue. . .

I think that’s pretty awesome, too.

6.  Boy Time

I was happy to have some (very rare) time with just my boys this week.

Chad and I learned that when the girls are gone, Charlie has the ability speak the same amount of words, at double the speed, as three children.

Who knew?

7.  Seriously

I caught her in the act. . .

. . . trying to clean the juice she spilled.

Paper towels and Mr. Clean in hand.

Is this normal?

8.  Thank you.

From the bottom of my heart and with sincerity that extends beyond words, I want to say say thank you.

Thank you for all of the generous words, birthday wishes, and kind sentiments you offered after my last post.  I appreciate the time each of you took to reach out and help celebrate my ever so patient husband and our family.

I’ve said it so many times before and I will say it again and again and again. . .

I appreciate the community I’ve found here more than you will ever truly know.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Friends.
