Smile

I ran into the grocery store today and couldn’t help but notice so many people rushing from one isle to the next without making eye contact with one another.  When I was on my way to the checkout, I passed by one gentleman who seemed to be taking his time as if he had nowhere in particular to be.  When our eyes met he offered a smile. . . and I smiled back.  It felt good. . .

What has put a smile on your face recently?  Here are some of mine. . .

1.  Re-reading a great book while sipping a warm cup o’ sumtin.

This is a great book and I think everyone should read it.  Enough said.

2.  Childhood games.

Remember that game. . . Where’s Waldo?  you know the one I’m talking about. . . Big book, colorful pages, searching for strange guy with red and white striped shirt.  When I was younger and flipping through the pages of my sister’s Where’s Waldo book, I had no idea that I’d have my very own live version one day.  We call our version, Where’s Chanelle?

Our version wears polk-a-dots

Give up?

She was fast asleep buried under her “friends”.  (She calls her stuffed animals “friends”.  That makes me smile, too.)

3.  Black lights + white clothing + little girl = big smile

We went to my beautiful cousin’s baby shower on Saturday.  It was at a bowling alley. Did I mention the black lights?  Black lights at a baby shower. . . Awesome.  When we walked in Chanelle exclaimed, “I’m glowing!”.  (More awesome).

4.  Road trips.

Road trips in general are great.  Road trips with my little girl. . . priceless.  We had an hour drive to the above mentioned baby shower.  She slept all the way there.  On the way home. . . she sang, she talked, and she tried to wrap her mind around why the baby wasn’t at the shower.  The poor girl was concerned that it was too dark in Mommy’s belly.

5.  Sister/Aunt.

Speaking of road trips to bowling alley baby showers. . . guess who else was there?

My sister.  As I’ve mentioned before. . . my sister pretty much rocks. As you can tell, my daughter adores her Aunt Ashley just as much as I do.

Again, I smile.

6.  Silliness.

Chad likes to be silly.  I need that sometimes.  Here he is pictured with two of his favorite things.

I appreciate his silliness. . . most of the time. This Mt. Dew-thing, though, seems to be getting out of hand.  See here.  And if you need more evidence. . .
An intervention might be in the near future.

These are just some of the things that have made me smile over the last couple of days.  I think smiling is something we have to be intentional about.  Not the put it in the datebook kind of intentional. . . but the slow down and notice what is in front of you kind of intentional.

It’s true what they say. . . smiles really are contagious.  I caught one todayWhat was the last thing that made you smile?

“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”  Mother Teresa
